Picture taken in Valencia (Spain) on 16.09.2014 in the architectural environment of the City of Arts and Sciences. I decide to shoot in the morning and the sun, as main light, back to increase the contrast of the scene and for projecting sharp shadows in the picture. I decide to frame a general plan showing the architecture and include a subject only to give a minimalist touch. Once the edit photo taken reversing the image to have more visual impact and give it a futuristic look. / Fotografía tomada en Valencia (España) el 16/09/2014 en el entorno arquitectónico de la Ciudad de las Ciencias y las Artes. Decido fotografiar por la mañana y con el sol,como fuente de luz principal , de espaldas para aumentar el contraste de la escena y para que proyecte sombras marcadas en la fotografía. Decido para el encuadre un plano general que muestre la arquitectura del edificio e incluya a un sólo sujeto para darle un toque minimalista. Una vez tomada la foto la edito invirtiendo la imagen para que tenga más impacto visual y darle una aire futurista.

“In a trip to Central of Vietnam, we visited Vinh Hy Bay with lots of beautiful landscape. We stopped at a fishing village nearby the sea. Most of the villagers are fishermen. While the men do their fishing, their wives stay at home and do the errands. When we were there, the ladies were sewing the fishing net for a new fishing season. The color and the shape of the net looked like green clouds, which were drifting and bobbing. Especially the two ladies seemed a perfect highlight for the photo. I caught this moment and a nice photo came.
– Vietnamese: Trong 1 chuyến đi chụp ảnh ở miền Trung Việt Nam tôi đến Vịnh Vĩnh Hy, nơi có phong cảnh rất đẹp. Dọc theo bờ biển là làng của ngư dân. Trong khi nam giới ra khơi đánh bắt thuỷ sản thì phụ nữ đa phần ở nhà làm các công việc liên quan đến đánh bắt. Các cô đang may lưới cá để cho mùa vụ đánh bắt mới. Màu sắc và hình dáng bồng bềnh của lưới cá như 1 đám mây xanh lá đẹp tuyệt vời, hai cô gái đang may lưới như hai điểm nhấn hoàn hảo cho bức ảnh. Tôi bấm máy và thế là bức ảnh được ra đời.”

A blacktip reef shark patrols the edge of a recovering coral reef in search of a meal. With this image I wanted to portray as many elements of the idealistic ‘tropical island’ as possible. The image was particularly difficult to get, as it required the right combination of tide, good underwater visibility and calm surface conditions. At low tide I waded out with my underwater housing and perched on a large rock as I waited for the tide. On this particular day I perched on the rock for about four hours until the incoming tide threatened to sweep me off my feet.

Hanno partecipato in 177 mila inviando scatti da 171 paesi. Il Sony World Photography Awards è il concorso fotografico più conosciuto al mondo, aperto sia a professionisti che ad amatori.

Il vincitore italiano dell’edizione 2015 è il pratese Andrea Rossato con la sua “Industrial Geometries” che probabilmente sarebbe piaciuta a Gabriele Basilico sia per la scelta del soggetto che per il taglio e la luce.

La sua immagine, scattata a Martignacco in provincia di Udine, sarà premiata nel corso della cerimonia di gala che si terrà a Londra il 23 aprile e successivamente esposta alla Somerset House di Londra durante la mostra in programma dal 24 aprile al 10 maggio.  Al secondo posto, per il nostro paese, si è classificato Pierumberto Pampanin che ha preceduto Mirko Boni.

Colpisce, per quel verde sfolgorante, la tessitura ritratta dal vietnamita Pham Van Ty, come è vivida, molto design style l’immagine che ha fatto vincere José Luis Vilar Jordan tra i fotografi spagnoli: la sua bicicletta sfreccia tra bianche immacolate impalcature.

La tedesca Uwe Hennig è riuscita invece nel difficilissimo intento di rendere bellissima una zanzara “catturata” mentre sembra danzare sull’acqua. E’ una vera ballerina che flette le gambe la protagonista dello scatto fortunato di Courtney Colantonio Ray, migliore candidata statunitense insieme ad Assen Todorov il quale ha scelto un soggetto geografico decisamente glabro.

Il britannico Byron Dilkes ci proietta invece con l’occhio e la fantasia nel mondo sottomarino, ma soltanto a metà visto che la sua macchina fotografica rimane a pelo d’acqua, consentendo così di guardare ben due dimensioni. L’australiano Karl Grenet merita una citazione speciale, oltre al premio del suo paese, per il simpatico quadretto di un’emeroteca asiatica verticale in cui ognuno legge il giornale a modo e nella posizione che preferisce, sovvertendo ogni più classica forma fisica di lettura.
