Cannes non è Hollywood, con i suoi eccessi di ironia, e cadute di stile dal gusto opinabile, che abbassano ad ogni occasione il livello del consentito nel nome del ‘purchè se ne parli’ (e l’ultimo Met Gala ne è stato un esempio lampante). D’altra parte, nessun red carpet a stelle e strisce ha mai raggiunto l’autorevolezza della Montée des Marches e i divi lo sanno bene, soprattutto quelli che arrivano dall’altra parte dell’Oceano.

Per questo non si sono fatti trovare impreparati per la cerimonia cinematografica francese, presentandosi al meglio sotto l’impietoso flash dei fotografi: il più a suo agio di tutti è Vincent Cassel, che gioca in casa nel suo completo Giorgio Armani. La compagine americana, invece, ha puntato sul classico smoking con papillon e revers a scialle, in pieno stile vecchia Hollywood (leggi alla voce Jake Gyllenhaal in Tom Ford e John Legend in Gucci). Un arcobaleno cromatico quasi monocromo, il loro, che vaga con certezza, nel nome dell’eleganza, tra il nero e il blu notte: l’eccezione è John C. Reilly, che al photocall de Il racconto dei racconti del nostro Matteo Garrone, è arrivato in completo bianco (vedi anche come indossare il pantalone bianco alla Great Gatsby), panama, bastone da passeggio e derby bicolor. L’ispirazione al Grande Gatsby di Fitzgerald è la più suggestiva, amata e celebrata nella cultura americana, considerata non plus ultra della raffinatezza. Sean Penn gigioneggia nel suo completo total black di Armani, con aria tronfia, e ne ha ben donde, visto che al suo fianco stringe la compagna Charlize Theron, una che, dalla pubblicità della Martini nel 1993, non ha smesso di far girare la testa agli uomini. E se persino due come i presidenti di giuria Joel ed Ethan Coen, solitamente lontani dal glamour e creatori del mito cinematografico meno modaiolo che la contemporaneità ricordi (Il grande Lebowski) scelgono di indossare degli smoking con i revers in seta (entrambi di Brioni), vuol dire che l’eleganza, per Cannes, non è un’opzione. E siamo solo agli inizi.
